What happens on moving day with BARI

Before the day: the call, the scope and access

Moving day starts well before the truck. When you send a quote request, a coordinator calls to confirm access and prepare the written quote. That call covers the things that decide how a move goes: lifts, loading zones, parking, stairs and any long carry from the door to the truck.

The written scope covers access, packing and distance, and it is agreed before moving day. Access is planned up front and written into the quote, not discovered at the door. If a piano, spa bath or oversized sofa needs a hoist, BARI says so before the day, not at the kerb. You also keep one dedicated coordinator from quote to completion, so there is one person to call.

If your building needs a lift booking or a loading zone, sort that out now. The apartment move guide in the Journal explains how, and you can request a quote at any point to start the conversation.

When the crew arrives: protect first

The crews are furniture-trained, and the first job is not lifting. Floors and doorways are protected before anything moves, using blankets and shoe covers, and furniture and fragile pieces are covered before they are carried.

It is worth being home, or having someone there, for the start. Walk the crew through anything that is not obvious: the piece that is staying, the box that is fragile, the room that is off limits.

Account: checking against the run sheet

Every significant piece is checked against the run sheet rather than remembered from the kerb. High-value art, marble and instruments are flagged on the run sheet, so the wrapping and handling match the piece.

This is also the step that keeps a move from turning into a guessing game at the other end. If it is on the sheet, it is accounted for.

Move: wrapping and handling that match the item

Wrapping, equipment and handling are chosen for each item. A marble top is not a carton, and a sofa is not carried like a box of books. Packing can be full or partial, depending on what you agreed in the quote.

The same approach applies whether it is a household or a business. Home removals and office removals in Sydney both follow it, and how BARI moves furniture sets out the four steps in more detail.

At the new home: place, then walk the rooms

Furniture goes where it belongs in the next room, not wherever is easiest to unload. Beds go in the bedrooms and the sofa goes on the wall you chose.

After placing, the crew walks the rooms with you. It is the moment to point out anything that needs adjusting while everyone is still there.

After the move: raise anything with your coordinator

If you notice something later, such as a mark, a missing item or a piece you want moved to another spot, contact your coordinator. BARI is insured for goods in transit and public liability, and one person who already knows your job is the quickest way to sort it out.

You can also phone 0415 192 341. BARI is open 7 days, 7am to 9pm.
